What an AWESOME Vacation!

To sum up our vacation to Savannah and Jekyll Island it was simply one of the best family vacations we have ever been on!  I had so much fun!  We drove Friday morning from our house to Savannah and made good time.  We got there in the afternoon, checked in to the hotel (The historic DeSoto Hilton) and walked down to the river and had lunch at my favorite place, Wet Willies.  We spent the remainder of the afternoon sight seeing and then went back to the hotel and went swimming.  After a short rest at the hotel we went back out and had lunch at the Moon River pub.  The food was awesome!  However, this place has quite the haunted history!  When me and my daddy went in to the cellar to look around, I could have sworn I felt something tug at my hair!  Very creepy indeed! We then walked around the city market district visiting various shops until going back down to the river area to see an awesome 4th of July fireworks display.

Saturday, the 5th, was the beginning of what my parents have come to call, “Stellapalooza” or better known as, MY BIRTHDAY!  We had breakfast at the world famous Clary’s Cafe (a few scenes from the movie, “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” were filmed there).  On a side note, I must confess I am becoming quite the coffee drinker because I had two full cups there!  Very good coffee!  Later in the afternoon me and my mommy when on a dolphin cruise.  It was AWESOME!  We saw so many dolphins.  It was very hot though.  After the cruise we met my daddy at Wet Willies for lunch then went to the hotel for an afternoon swim.  That was so refreshing, I LOVE the pool at the DeSoto Hilton!  Later in the evening we had dinner at my favorite restaurant, Panara Bread and then went on a Haunted Trolley Tour that my daddy booked when me and mommy were on the Dolphin Tour.  That was so cool.  We toured many haunted places and heard so many creepy but true tales about the various hauntings in Savannah.  That was fun!  The most interesting part was the last stop on the tour when we were given EMF Detectors and were allowed to explore a warehouse that is on the site of where a triple murder occurred.  Unfortunately we did not detect anything out of the ordinary but it was still fun!

The next day we packed up early in the morning and drove down to Jekyll Island.  Along the way we stopped at my mom and dads favorite restaurant in Savannah called “Love’s Seafood”.  It was at that location where many scenes from the movie Forrest Gump were filmed. One of the more memorable was the scene where Forrest sees Lt. Dan on the dock and Forrest jumps from his boat and swims to him.  Later in the scene Forrest’s boat slams in to the adjoining dock. My daddy and I took a picture on the dock (pic below).

We got to Jekyll later that afternoon, checked in to the hotel and spent the remainder of the day at the beach.  Me and my daddy went boogie boarding on the waves and had a BLAST!  We then got sandwiches at Larry’s Subs, had an evening walk on the beach and a night time swim in the hotel pool.

The next morning we got up and went to Summer Waves Water Park.  This place was so AWESOME!  It was not too big and not too small.  It was perfect!  It also had one of the best wave pools I have ever been in!  We had so much fun!  We then spent the evening resting and later in the night went to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on the island and did a beach tour to see if we could spot any sea turtles laying their eggs since this is the time of year for them to do so.  Unfortunately we did not see any but the Marine Biologists who conducted the tour were very nice and informative.

The next morning was bittersweet.  We got up early, had breakfast, went back to the room and packed and headed back home.  We got back early in the evening.  The best part was coming home and seeing my beloved Shih Tzu, Mia!  She was so HAPPY to see us all, but mostly me in particular since she is my dog. :)

Like all vacations, this went by too quick, but every minute of it was so much fun, especially with my mommy and daddy!  Below are some pictures taken from the trip:
